Material Perception of Sound

Material Perception of Sound

This Max patch is a tool for experimenting on the material perception of physical objects based on their sound emittance. The end goal is to be able to create sounds for a specific material by defining physical parameters. This patch generates a random sound then plays it to the user with a video of a generic object falling and playing the generated sound with the falling objects impacts as an amplitude envelope. The user then has to set the sliders in accordance to their perception of the materiality of the object. This user perception is stored with the parameters of the randomly generated sound and could be used to train machine learning algorithms to then possibly achieve something like the original concept had in mind.
